Daily average, e.g. last 30 days’ sales ÷ 30
From placing the order to having it in stock
Covers late deliveries and busier-than-usual days
Reorder when 100 units are left
- Reorder point
- 100units
- Safety stock
- 30units
How it works
Reorder point = daily usage × (lead time + safety days): what is left must last until the new stock arrives, plus a buffer. Safety stock = daily usage × safety days.
| Reorder point | 10 × (7 + 3) = 100 |
|---|---|
| Safety stock | 10 × 3 = 30 |

Frequently asked questions
What is a reorder point?
The stock level at which you order again. If you wait until you run out, you are empty while the supplier delivers — so the reorder point is what you use during the lead time, plus safety stock.
How many safety days should I keep?
For steady sellers start with 2–3 days, or about half the lead time. Add days if the supplier is often late or sales swing a lot; use fewer if the goods spoil or tie up too much cash.
Does it work in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the .xlsx to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets — the balance and reorder formulas work the same as in Excel.
What if I have many products?
Copy the sheet once per product. With hundreds of products or several warehouses, Excel gets slow and error-prone; an ERP deducts stock from each sale automatically and flags every product’s reorder point in one place.
